Eminem is a great storyteller, and knows how to self-mythologize. Even casual fans know his story, as well as the names of his daughter, ex-wife, and murdered best friend. He makes you care about him, without wallowing in self-pity. This isn't exactly the same thing as being a skilled memoirist, however. Though "The Way I Am" has lots of interesting details and anecdotes, it's glossy, both literally and figuratively.
